What Happens In Between
This artwork, begun at the beginning of the Covid pandemic in 2020, reflects feelings of despair and anger over the unresponsiveness of the leadership in charge. My initial feeling was isolation and what I yearned for was the old structure of my days and my life. Author and essayist Timothy Kreider says most people are “uncomfortable with formlessness.” They cling to routines and are lost without a schedule or some type of structure. He is right at least in my case. Suddenly helping monitor children with virtual school and teaching a 3-year-old his ABCs gave validity to my day. Yet to paraphrase many writers “life is what happens in the messy in between.” In this painting, I explored visual textures, organic shapes, sgraffito and other mark making techniques.
