Resilience (Diptych)
Almost half the year many of the trees along the greenway in my city grow in water. They live along the creek (actually 2 creeks) next to the greenway in an area made wonderful for walking or biking or just sitting. Looking at them you would expect most of the them to die, and certainly my research tells me that trees canât sit in water over 3 or 4 months unless they are specifically designed for it. The water reduces the nutrients they need to grow and produce green leaves.
This painting was inspired by this view and these trees. Thankfully the trees paid no attention to my google search or science. Otherwise, they would not be alive and green and would instead be failing from a lack of nutrients. But somehow most of them make it through fall and winter rains and summer drought. They are survivors because they are resilient.
