What Is Important
This painting started as an experiment with texture. A friend had given me an intricate metal circle that had been part of some manufacturing process. When I used it to stamp into gypsum paste, I was fascinated by the circular motion created by the metal piece and the heavy texture in the substrate. Mostly neutrals, the high contrast with the bit of warm color made this piece very spiritual for me—or perhaps it was something subconscious at the time. Nevertheless, it has become a reminder to me to be thankful every day for what I hold most dear—for what is important.
