Part of a series called Innersights, “Thanksgiving” explores the link between sensory and conceptual meaning in what we call prayer. When we think gratitude or grief is it a prayer or must there be a physical element such as kneeling? This painting and others in this series were created to invoke the rawness of emotions and thought. There is more subtraction in the layering process, sanding, carving out, even gouging. The quote on the sides of this piece by Victor Hugo will on be only on the original: “Thanksgiving has wings and goes where it must go.”
